The only Canterbury pub on the water, this building truly is the community hub of Kaiapoi.
This homegrown brewpub sits on the Kaiapoi River’s north bank and can also be accessed from town via the dedicated cycleway or Northern Corridor.
The structure itself has a high vaulted ceiling, formed with exposed oregon trusses. These are supported by large steel portal frames. The basement is set into the riverbank below ground level with concrete block walls. A concrete slab was poured midfloor, at ground level, with timber framed walls. The upstairs apartment completes the building. Extensive fire-proofing was needed across all three levels of this building.
Hazeldine also delivered on the high impact design of the outdoor space and boardwalk area on land joining the Kaiapoi river and new commercial precinct in 2019.
Concrete steps, timber boardwalk and seating, handrails and balustrades were delivered to a high standard, reflecting Council provided plans.
We relished the chance to showcase this vibrant new hub using our skills and workmanship, creating a space that draws people to come together.
